Robert Pattinson has confessed he didn’t even know what brooding meant before he played vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight.
The 23-year-old teen heartthrob, who in new film Remember Me plays Tyler Hawkins, a lost young man who finds love with a girl as they both cope with family tragedy, rejects the idea he is attracted to brooding characters.
Robert said: “I never thought Tyler was that brooding – I hadn’t even heard the word before Twilight – I guess you like to play broken troubled characters because it seems more interesting, especially because I’m not particularly broken and troubled myself.”
He revealed he is to play a “dark but incredibly focused and confident” character in his next film and added: “I did do the kind of lighter stuff before Twilight came out and it just so happened that Twilight became so much about him being an archetypal brooding person.”
Tyler gets into a few punch-ups in his latest film, clashing with his love interest’s father played by Chris Cooper.
But Robert revealed he struggled in his fight with “a big stunt guy”.
He confessed: “I hit with what I thought was my full strength. I hit his face about four times. And every time I was like ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry’ and he was like ‘it’s fine. It didn’t really hurt.’ That was kind of an ego deflator.”
He admitted he hasn’t been in a fight in real life “for a long time”.
“I’m too scared. I think if I got into a fight now someone would just kill me.”

"I believe in Karma. I believe it exists and whatever you do in your everyday life makes the person that you are. What you give in life comes back to you. I’m convinced of that, so I’m sure that everyday you have to be a good person and treat everyone with respect. We’re all connected."
